Garden design & landscaping cost guide

Garden design and landscaping costs depend on more than the size of your garden. The layout, access, materials and construction beneath the surface all shape the investment.

This guide explains how to plan for a complete garden rebuild with our in-house design and construction team, or for us to build a scheme created by your garden designer.

Garden landscaping budgets at a glance

Use these bands to explore the scale and features of your project. All guide figures below exclude VAT. The examples describe possible combinations, not fixed packages: the final scope depends on garden size, access, groundwork and your chosen specification. Design fees and specialist installations are confirmed separately in your quotation.

£30,000–£45,000 · A focused garden transformation

A compact terrace, renewed lawn and refreshed borders, with soil preparation, planting and finishing advice.

£45,000–£65,000 · A more complete garden scheme

A medium-sized patio and new lawn, alongside planting, improved soil, lighting and boundary fencing.

£65,000–£120,000 · Space for outdoor living

Larger terraces and planting areas, decking and lawn, with options such as a pergola, garden lighting or a hot tub.

£120,000–£500,000 · An extensive garden transformation

Expansive landscaping with options including a pool or swim spa, outdoor kitchen, decking, irrigation, garden structures, lighting and planting.

£500,000+ · Bespoke large-scale landscapes

For substantial grounds and technically demanding rebuilds, the brief may bring together extensive earthworks, engineered level changes, multiple entertaining spaces, mature planting and bespoke features. The design and construction programme are developed around the property and the way you want to use it.

Our current £1 million Nazeing landscaping contract demonstrates the scale of project we can undertake. Every scheme at this level is individually specified and priced.

Features listed within a band are possibilities to discuss, not a promise that every feature is included at its lower price. We will establish priorities and confirm inclusions, exclusions and the total price in your project quotation.

What changes the price of a garden?

01 · Groundworks and access

Excavation, waste removal, drainage, soil conditions and retaining structures can account for a significant part of a rebuild. Restricted access can also affect the machinery and labour needed.

02 · Layout and materials

The area of paving, number of terraces and steps, edging details and material choices all affect the cost. A cohesive design helps you decide where higher-specification finishes will make the most difference.

03 · Planting and outdoor living

Mature planting, lighting, irrigation, pergolas, outdoor kitchens and other bespoke features add different levels of complexity. Tell us which elements are essential and which you would like to explore.

Large-scale garden transformations

Nazeing design visualisation — £1 million landscaping project currently being built.

Our current Nazeing project is a £1 million landscaping contract. It demonstrates the scale of construction we can undertake, rather than a typical garden budget.

The project is in progress. The design visualisations on its project page illustrate the planned scheme.

Planning your garden budget

Can you price a garden by square metre?

A single square-metre rate is rarely a useful guide for a complete rebuild. Two gardens of the same size may need very different drainage, excavation, structural work and finishes. A project-specific scope gives you a more useful basis for comparison.

Is the garden design fee included?

Design requirements vary between projects. We will discuss the design work needed and how it is priced before you commit. If you already have a designer, let us know which drawings and specifications are available.

What should I send with my enquiry?

Your postcode, a few photographs, an approximate garden size, the changes you would like to make and your intended budget are a helpful starting point. Include existing design drawings and your preferred timing if you have them.
